Our Planet, Our Health

World Health Day is celebrated each year on April 7th, organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to raise awareness about the importance of our Health and our Planet.

This year’s theme is Our Planet, Our Health and it aims to direct global attention toward the well being of our planet and humans living on it.

To look after ourselves now is easier than ever, with nutrition tips and exercise plans at our fingertips through the internet, we can follow programmes and improve our minds and bodies.

To look after our bodies and our mental well being is fundamental and contributes to economic advancement as healthy people live longer and are more productive.

Some tips on improving our health are:

  • Drink lots of Water
  • Eat a healthy breakfast
  • Eat more home cooked meals
  • Limit your sugar intake
  • Exercise regularly
  • And now we move on to our planet, and as a company that specialises in recruitment for the Water Industry, we look at our Clean Water Sources.

Did you know that 2 billion lack safe drinking water globally?

To protect our Water Sources, we need to prevent sewage, waste, and chemicals from entering our lakes, rivers and groundwater.

829,000 people die each year from polluted Water and poor sanitation which can all be prevented.

Pouring hazardous waste down the drains, on the ground, or into sewers can be so harmful. Some examples of these are:

    • Motor Oil
    • Pesticides
    • Leftover paints
    • Household Cleaners
    • If we all made a conscious effort to dispose of these in a safer way, this could help with the contamination of our Water Supplies.

Try not to use Lawn & Garden chemicals – many pesticides and fertilizers contain harmful chemicals which can travel through soils and contaminate the groundwater, this then runs off into our rivers, streams, and lakes. Try to shop around for a least toxic pesticide, that has low human and environmental health hazards, these include botanicals, essential oils, or plant & mineral sourced products.

Let’s help to protect our Planet and Ourselves.
