Planning Manager role:
 
Reporting to the Head of Planning, you will develop, monitor, and report on tender and contractual programmes, ensuring timescales are achievable and regularly updated.
You will keep operational and commercial teams informed of critical activities and risks, monitor costs, take ownership of project plans, and drive delivery while challenging delays or deviations.
In addition, you will lead and support junior planners, sharing knowledge to improve performance and embed best practice across the team.
 
Planning Manager responsibilities:

  • Work with the estimating team to prepare compliant and realistic tender programmes.
  • Develop, update, and submit contract programmes in line with requirements.
  • Support and lead collaborative planning workshops and 4D construction phase planning.
  • Maintain baseline programmes, track progress, and update as required.
  • Liaise with project teams to ensure consistent methodology and outputs.
  • Identify opportunities and risks during planning and analyse impacts of scope changes.
  • Collect, analyse, and distribute progress information, including reasons for delays or deviations.
  • Present programmes at project and progress meetings and gather updates from site visits.
  • Report programme issues to the Senior Planning Manager and site management.
  • Issue regular lookahead programmes and ensure an as-built programme is completed at project close.
  • Record site changes and assess their impact on contract programmes and costs.
  • Contribute to monthly progress reports in line with client requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior managers, project teams, and client representatives.
  • Support administration of Primavera P6 planning software and deliver training for new users.

 
Planning Manager requirements:

  • Experience in planning civil and M&E projects
  • Knowledge of current HSE practices and valid CSCS card
  • Experience with NEC3/4 contracts
  • Proficient in Primavera P6 planning software
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft applications
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify risks, opportunities, and solutions
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Focused on deliverables with a proactive approach
