FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading UK-based provider of integrated water and wastewater solutions for an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to strengthen their engineering team.
This role is based in Peterborough with hybrid working available.

Lead Mechanical Engineer role:
- We are seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer for our Peterborough office (hybrid working available) to join our engineering team as we prepare for AMP 8, our most ambitious Asset Management Period yet
- This role offers the opportunity to drive innovation, sustainability, and engineering excellence while supporting career growth
- You will provide technical direction to the mechanical engineering team, focusing on water and water recycling non-infrastructure projects, ensuring designs are compliant, efficient, and sustainable. This is a chance to contribute to a large, challenging portfolio of projects and help us exceed customer expectations
Lead Mechanical Engineer responsibilities:
Project Delivery:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Provide guidance to ensure project designs are affordable, sustainable, and meet Anglian Water’s obligations.
Innovation & Transformation:
- Champion innovative approaches and digital technologies to enhance project outcomes and efficiency
- Support initiatives to reduce carbon footprint and promote sustainable construction practices
- Embrace modular construction solutions and drive continuous improvement within the team
Leadership & Mentoring:
- Lead and mentor junior engineers, fostering their professional development
- Provide technical guidance, review design deliverables for quality, safety, and compliance with standards
Health & Safety:
- Ensure designs comply with statutory, industry, and health & safety standards
- Propose alternative solutions to enhance safety and minimize whole-life costs
- Manage knowledge sharing and contribute to lessons learned initiatives
Collaboration & Reporting:
- Report regularly to the Principal Engineer and collaborate closely with project stakeholders
- Contribute to construction design management and commissioning strategies
Project Manager requirements:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
- Proven experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within the water sector
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of mentoring and developing junior engineers
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices
- Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant engineering tools
