Job Description
FJA is recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer on behalf of a leading manufacturer of food processing and packaging machinery to strengthen their engineering team.
Location: Rochdale, Lancashire.

Mechanical Design Engineer role:
- Work in a design office, solving technical problems and producing detailed design drawings under deadlines.
- Collaborate on larger projects, reviewing the work of colleagues and mentoring junior staff.
- Report to the Design Office Manager and liaise with the Production Manager and other departments.
Mechanical Design Engineer responsibilities:
- Adhere to company policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., EN, CE marking, pressure vessel codes). Provide guidance to colleagues on these standards.
- Conducting site visits and surveys as required, fostering strong working relationships with all departments within the company.
- You will design and detail both bespoke and standard equipment, ensuring compliance with quality standards and procedures while utilising AutoCAD and 3D design software.
- Document and review any modifications required during manufacturing, updating relevant drawings accordingly for future reference.
- Ensure that all tasks are completed accurately and without errors, do not proceed with any design or verbal instruction if it is known to be incorrect.
- Maintain politeness and understanding with colleagues and customers.
- Understand and comply with the Company Safety Manual and Safety Policy.
- Explore cost-effective solutions and streamline processes when purchasing parts and estimating job costs.
- To streamline the design process, utilise company standards for designs, drawings, and Bill of Materials (BOMs).
Mechanical Design Engineer requirements:
- Have a working knowledge of 3D modelling software, including AutoCAD and other relevant tools.
- Knowledge of relevant statutory regulations and industry standards, such as EN standards and CE marking requirements.
- Experience in designing both bespoke and standard equipment, with a strong ability to produce accurate and detailed design drawings.
- Ability to identify and resolve technical issues effectively.
- Experience in working collaboratively within a team environment.
- To operate where the job/position demands (either in the UK or overseas, when necessary).
