Job Description
FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading service provider in the utilities industry for an experienced Principal Engineer based out at Exeter or Bristol, hybrid working available.

Principal Engineer role:
- You will report to the Regional Engineering Lead or Discipline Lead and provide high-quality engineering design services to minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering contracts.
- Your role involves coordinating design efforts and producing documents and drawings that adhere to health and safety requirements, specifications, and relevant standards.
Principal Engineer responsibilities:
- You will develop cost-effective design layouts that meet specification requirements and can be efficiently constructed and commissioned. “Cost” includes all expenses associated with the design and construction process, such as design time, material costs, erection expenses, and any potential impact on other disciplines.
- You will follow established procedures and processes to support the ongoing development of the department, as well as assist in creating and refining these procedures. Additionally, you will monitor and review the effectiveness of these procedures and processes.
- Maintain files and records throughout the duration of contracts.
- You will work in a culture where customer satisfaction is recognized as the key to achieving all other objectives, with customers including both end users and internal departments benefiting from our processes.
- You will maintain an ongoing personal development plan.
- You will help supervise and develop staff while ensuring a safe working environment for everyone.
- You will minimize waste in all departmental activities and ensure that designs consider environmental concerns.
- Ensure that design takes full regard of all health and safety requirements.
Principal Engineer requirements:
- Proven experience in designing complex process systems
- Experience in managing staff responsible for designing relevant aspects of water and sewage treatment plants.
- Membership in a professional institution or Chartered status.
- A relevant engineering degree in the discipline or equivalent experience and training.
- The ability to optimize designs and create cost-effective plant layouts.
- The ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently, and persuasively.
- Driving license
