FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading service provider in the utilities industry for an experienced Principal Engineer – Mechanical Design based in Derby.

Principal Engineer – Mechanical Design responsibilities:

• Design layouts must be optimised to minimize total outturn costs—including design, materials, construction, and interdisciplinary impacts—while meeting specification requirements and ensuring practical constructability and commissioning.
• Support the Proposals department with accurate estimates and constructive feedback.
• Follow, develop, and continuously review procedures to support departmental growth and ensure efficient, effective operations.
• Maintain accurate contract records and a personal development plan throughout project duration.
• Support the supervision and professional development of team members.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for all staff.
• Minimize departmental waste, ensure designs consider environmental impacts, and fully comply with health and safety requirements.

Principal Engineer – Mechanical Design requirements:

• Experience in leading staff involved in the design of discipline-specific elements of water and sewage treatment plants.
• Chartered status or membership in a professional institution.
• Engineering degree in a relevant discipline.
• Ability to optimize designs and create cost-effective plant layouts and present technical proposals clearly and persuasively.
• Driver’s license.
