Job Description
We are looking for a Principal Engineer – Process based in Bristol with hybrid working available. This is a contract-based role.
You will report to the Regional Discipline Lead – Design Management and be responsible for delivering high-quality Engineering Design services to minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. This includes coordinating designs and producing documents and drawings while ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements, specifications, and contract standards.

Principal Engineer – Process role:
- Produce design layouts that are cost-effective, meet specification requirements, and can be easily constructed and commissioned. “Cost” encompasses all expenses related to the design and its subsequent construction, including design time, material, erection costs, and any impact the design may have on other disciplines.
- Follow established procedures and processes to support the ongoing development of the department. Assist in creating, monitoring, and reviewing these procedures to ensure continuous improvement.
- Write, update and monitor efficient procedures to aid the smooth running of the department.
- Maintain files and records for the entire duration of contracts.
- Work within a culture that prioritizes customer satisfaction as key to achieving all objectives, recognizing that customers include both end users and other departments within the company benefiting from our processes.
- Support in supervising and developing staff and help ensure a safe working environment for everyone.
- Minimize waste across all departmental activities, ensure designs consider environmental factors, and fully adhere to all health and safety requirements.
Principal Engineer – Process requirements:
- Experience of concept design including project definition and data gathering.
- Have experience managing staff in designing relevant aspects of water and sewage treatment plants.
- Membership in a professional institution or chartered status.
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Ability to optimise designs and create cost-effective plant layouts.
- Strong general knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, including mechanical, process, and electrical engineering, as well as project management.
- Driving license
