Job Description

FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading service provider in the utilities industry for an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to strengthen their team.

Principal Mechanical Engineer responsibilities:

  • Produce complex design layouts which are cost effective, meet the requirements of the specification and which can be constructed and commissioned effectively.
  • Producing and reviewing all design deliverables, including specifications, schedules, drawings, and calculations.
  • Collaborating with other disciplines to develop the site/plant 3D model.
  • Delivering the design stage outputs of each project within the agreed timescale and budget.
  • Coordinating design outputs across all technical disciplines.
  • Lead Operability and Maintenance workshops with the Client to evaluate the proposed design solution, ensuring that necessary measures are implemented to address operability and maintainability.
  • Assist in supervising and developing staff, promote a safe working environment, reduce waste in departmental activities, ensure designs consider environmental impacts, and ensure full compliance with CDM 2015 Regulations and health and safety standards.
  • Follow procedures and processes to support the ongoing development of the department, while also assisting in the development, monitoring, and review of these procedures and processes.

Principal Mechanical Engineer requirements:

  • Proven experience and in-depth knowledge of engineering principles, including expertise in structures, materials, hydraulics, and environmental engineering.
  • Experience in managing staff members responsible for designing various discipline aspects of water and sewage treatment plants.
  • Membership in a professional institution or chartered status.
  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Ability to optimize designs and create cost-effective plant layouts.
  • Strong general knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, including mechanical engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering, and project management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of roles and responsibilities under the CDM 2015 Regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards (BS, WIMES, BSRIA, etc.), HSE regulatory requirements (PUWER, LOLER, PSSR 2000, DSEAR, etc.), The Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2016 (Reg31), Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI), etc.
  • Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and convincingly.
  • Driving license.
