FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading service provider in the utilities industry for an experienced to Principle Mechanical Engineer to strengthen their team.
This role is based in Rickmansworth with hybrid working available.

Principle Mechanical Engineer role:
- As our service to our client continues to grow into AMP8, we are seeking to strengthen our Engineering team with a Principal Mechanical Engineer. Based in the Thames Water region, you will report directly to the Regional Discipline Lead (Mechanical).Our challenging programme of work spans a variety of water and wastewater schemes, with projects valued at approximately £400M.
Principle Mechanical Engineer responsibilities:
- Produce complex, cost-effective design layouts that meet specifications and can be constructed and commissioned efficiently.
- Prepare and review all design deliverables, including specifications, schedules, drawings, and calculations.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to develop site/plant 3D models.
- Ensure standard designs and best practices are applied wherever possible.
- Deliver design stage outputs within agreed timescales and budgets.
- Coordinate design outputs across all technical disciplines.
- Maintain competitiveness through innovative and efficient design solutions.
- Provide estimates and feedback to the Proposals department.
- Build strong working relationships with construction staff and supply chain representatives to promote constructability and supply chain efficiency.
- Follow and contribute to the development of departmental procedures and processes.
- Monitor, review, and update procedures to ensure efficient department operations.
- Coordinate designs with all internal and external disciplines to ensure comprehensive, contract-wide alignment.
- Maintain accurate files and records throughout the duration of contracts.
- Chair operability and maintenance workshops with clients to confirm designs are maintainable and operable.
- Maintain a personal development plan and contribute to the professional development of staff.
- Minimise waste in all departmental activities.
- Comply fully with CDM 2015 Regulations and all relevant health and safety requirements.
Principle Mechanical Engineer requirements:
- Strong engineering knowledge, including structures, materials, hydraulics, and environmental engineering.
- In-depth understanding of water and sewage treatment processes.
- Experience managing design staff within water/sewage treatment projects.
- Chartered Engineer status or membership of a professional institution.
- Relevant engineering degree.
- Ability to produce cost-effective, practical plant designs.
- Broad knowledge of mechanical, process, and electrical engineering in water treatment.
- Understanding of CDM 2015 and key industry/HSE standards.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to present technical proposals clearly.
- Full driving licence.
