Senior Buyer – Regional Procurement Team
Derby Office | Hybrid Working Available

Due to continued growth and increased project activity across our client’s Civil Engineering portfolio, they are expanding the Regional Procurement Team to strengthen governance, enhance commercial performance, and drive strategic alignment across our projects.
We’re seeking a Civils Subcontractor Buyer to join the team in Derby. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in procuring and managing civils subcontract packages across multiple high-profile projects — ensuring cost efficiency, compliance, and the successful delivery of our regional programme.
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Procurement, you’ll be responsible for the end-to-end procurement of civils subcontract packages — including groundworks, drainage, earthworks, and structures. You’ll collaborate closely with project teams to define scopes, lead tender processes, negotiate terms, and manage supplier relationships that support timely, compliant, and cost-effective project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead procurement of civils subcontract packages, ensuring alignment with project schedules and specifications.
- Develop and execute project-specific procurement strategies.
- Manage the full tender lifecycle — from ITTs and RFQs through to evaluation and contract award.
- Negotiate pricing, programmes, KPIs, and commercial terms to achieve best value and mitigate risk.
- Maintain strong relationships with civils subcontractors and ensure compliance with Health & Safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Monitor committed costs and forecast subcontractor spend to manage financial exposure.
- Promote best practice procurement, governance, and continuous improvement.
- Support ESG and sustainability objectives through ethical and responsible sourcing.
- Prepare regional procurement performance reports and represent the function at internal and external meetings.
About You
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across teams and suppliers.
- Commercially astute with a solid understanding of cost drivers and contractual risk.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and confident in representing the Procurement function independently.
- Customer-focused and committed to ethical procurement practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with excellent organisational and reporting skills.
- Demonstrates alignment with company values and behaviours.
Desirable:
- CIPS qualified or working towards accreditation.
- Degree or qualification in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience with NEC contracts and civils subcontract frameworks.
- Familiarity with ISO standards, ESG compliance, and sustainable procurement.
- Experience within regulated sectors such as utilities, construction, or infrastructure.
