Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced operational leader to take responsibility for one of Scotland’s key leakage delivery programmes. We are seeking an Area Manager to lead the Central Region covering Clyde, Central and Ayr within a major Scottish Water Leakage Framework.
This role is based in Scotland and offers the chance to shape operational performance, strengthen team capability, and ensure the continued delivery of high quality work and exceptional service.
Area Manager Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership & Service Delivery
- Lead day to day operational delivery across the Central Region
- Ensure all work meets client expectations, contractual requirements and internal quality standards
- Maintain flexibility in planning and resourcing to support excellent customer service
- Use operational data and insights to drive improvements in productivity, performance and service outcomes
Health, Safety & Wellbeing
- Champion a proactive safety culture where nothing is so important it cannot be done safely
- Ensure compliance with HSE legislation, Scottish Water standards and internal governance
- Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings, audits and incident reviews
- Support leadership in analysing trends and improving the overall risk profile
People Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, motivate and support field teams, Team Leaders and technical staff
- Work closely with the Training Manager to ensure teams have the right skills and development pathways
- Create an inclusive, positive environment where people feel valued and engaged
- Ensure consistent delivery of appraisals, 1‑to‑1s, performance conversations and career development opportunities
Commercial & Financial Performance
- Work with senior leadership to deliver against budgets and financial targets
- Provide accurate data to support payment applications and commercial reporting
- Review monthly P&L information, identifying risks, opportunities and efficiency improvements
- Support risk management, forecasting and commercial governance
Requirements
Experience & Skills
- Strong experience in health, safety and wellbeing leadership
- Proven people management experience with the ability to lead, coach and develop teams
- Excellent communication skills – clear, confident and adaptable
- Strong organisational ability and comfort working with data and operational information
- High attention to detail and the ability to quickly understand new or unfamiliar information
- Solid IT capability, including Microsoft tools; experience with Excel or Power BI is advantageous
- Leakage or water industry experience is beneficial but not essential
