FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading service provider in the wastewater industry for an experienced Principal Civil Engineer to strengthen their team.
 
Location: Rickmansworth, hybrid working available.

Principal Civil Engineer role:

  • We are seeking to strengthen our engineering team by appointing a Principal Civil Engineer.
  • Reporting directly to the RDL, you will deliver high-quality engineering design services that enable the business to minimise risk and maximise profitability across turnkey and engineering services contracts.
  • You will be responsible for coordinating designs and producing design documentation and drawings, ensuring full compliance with health and safety requirements, relevant specifications, and applicable standards.

Principal Civil Engineer responsibilities:

  • Produce cost-effective design layouts that fully meet specification requirements and can be constructed and commissioned efficiently. Cost considerations must include total out-turn costs, encompassing design time, materials, installation, erection, and any impacts on other disciplines.
  • Apply standard practices wherever possible to maintain competitiveness and support efficiency.
  • Provide accurate estimates and constructive feedback to the Proposals department.
  • Adhere to established procedures and processes to support the ongoing development of the department.
  • Assist in the development, monitoring, review, and continuous improvement of departmental procedures and processes.
  • Maintain accurate files and records for the duration of each contract.
  • Work within a culture that recognises customer satisfaction as fundamental to achieving business objectives, acknowledging customers as both end users and internal departments.
  • Maintain and actively manage a personal development plan.
  • Support the supervision, mentoring, and development of staff.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Minimise waste across all departmental activities.
  • Ensure designs fully consider environmental impacts.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant health and safety requirements.

Principal Civil Engineer requirements:

  • Strong understanding of the principles of water and wastewater treatment.
  • Proven experience in managing and mentoring staff involved in the design of relevant discipline elements of water and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Membership of a professional institution, either chartered or working towards chartership.
  • Ideally qualified to degree level in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum qualification of a Civil Engineering HND.
  • Demonstrated ability to rationalise designs and develop economical and efficient plant layouts.
  • Broad knowledge of water treatment disciplines, including mechanical, process and electrical engineering, as well as project management.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Actively working towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Relevant Engineering Master’s degree.
