Project Director role:
- Seeking a proactive and ambitious Project Director to take ownership of a portfolio of complex operational projects within our Asset Survey and Inspection field services business.
- This role presents an exciting opportunity for a strategic leader who is committed to delivering project excellence while maintaining the highest standards of service quality and operational efficiency.
Project Director responsibilities:
- Lead, motivate and inspire a team of regional and project managers, along with geographically dispersed field teams, embedding strong leadership behaviours that promote a safety-first culture, professional development and best practice across all projects and operations.
- Take full responsibility for regional profit and loss performance, driving fee generation and commercial success while identifying, managing and mitigating project risks in line with regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Support the preparation of bids and proposals by developing compelling value propositions that clearly demonstrate capabilities and competitive advantages, while establishing robust contract governance and ensuring appropriate legal reviews to manage risk, compliance and dispute resolution.
- Deliver agreed financial targets, including profitability, effective budget management and days sales outstanding, while identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and performance.
- Champion the adoption of innovative technologies, tools and delivery methodologies to streamline workflows, reduce costs and improve overall project outcomes.
- Coach, mentor and develop regional and project management teams, ensuring compliance with training requirements, competency frameworks and relevant regulations.
- Hold overall accountability for project delivery and business initiatives, providing regular and accurate performance and progress reports to the Operations Director.
- Lead teams to achieve and exceed key performance indicators, including revenue, profit and cash-collection targets, ensuring alignment with wider commercial strategies and regional business plans.
Project Director requirements:
- In-depth knowledge of the water and wastewater sector, with a strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements
- Sound working knowledge of industry frameworks and NEC contracts
- Demonstrated experience leading complex projects, with a proven track record of strong commercial leadership and successful project delivery
- Ability to develop and maintain long-term, results-driven relationships with both new and existing clients
- Substantial senior management experience within a professional services environment, with clear evidence of delivery excellence and business growth
- Strong financial acumen, including proven experience in managing profit and loss accounts.
- Experience leading business change and delivering digital transformation initiatives within project delivery environments
- Excellent problem-solving and conflict management skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and negotiate effectively
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective engagement with clients, teams and senior management
- Holds a full UK driving licence
