Project Engineer role:
- Reporting directly to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing the design, construction, commissioning, and handover of contracts.
- This will include challenging technical solutions, identifying opportunities for innovation, and driving efficiencies to ensure projects are delivered safely, to specification, on programme, and within the agreed tender budget, while maintaining high standards of health and safety and achieving excellent customer satisfaction.
Project Engineer responsibilities:
- Develop, manage, and regularly update construction programmes to ensure delivery against key milestones
- Organise, chair, and contribute to collaborative planning sessions to ensure critical activities are effectively programmed with all key stakeholders
- Raise and distribute requisitions to procurement teams and buyers in line with project requirements
- Coordinate technical interfaces between engineering teams and supply chain partners to ensure alignment and efficient delivery
- Provide day-to-day leadership and management of the site management team, resolving issues promptly or escalating where necessary
- Review consolidated supplier invoices, identifying discrepancies or omissions prior to approval for payment
- Maintain and coordinate the project risk register, providing monthly updates and supporting Project Managers with early warnings and risk mitigation actions
- Attend and contribute to Health & Safety, progress, employee forum, and coordination meetings as required
- Work collaboratively with Project Management, Health & Safety, Design, and Construction teams to report, investigate, and close out near misses, unsafe conditions, incidents, and accidents
- Prepare pre-start documentation and ensure all required data is collated, uploaded, and maintained within project systems
- Support cost management activities by working closely with the Project Quantity Surveyor to develop cost plans, monitor commitments, track forecast out-turn costs, and assist in preparing mitigation strategies for any variances
- Lead and champion design liaison meetings to ensure effective coordination across disciplines
Project Engineer:
- Proven experience in project management within the construction or engineering sector
- Demonstrable experience delivering projects under the NEC3 form of contract
- Degree or equivalent qualification in a construction-related discipline
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with clients, stakeholders, and end users
- Sound knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, including CDM Regulations 2015
- Experience in the successful delivery of engineering and infrastructure projects
- Delivery-focused approach, with experience setting, managing, and monitoring project programmes and performance targets
- Strong contract management capability, including administration and compliance
- Experience operating within governance frameworks and reporting structures
- Proven ability in budgeting, cost control, and financial management
- Experience identifying, managing, and mitigating project risks, opportunities, and issues
- Competence in project planning and scheduling
- Experience in digital project delivery and use of relevant systems or platforms
- Procurement experience, including tendering, negotiation, and supplier management
- Ability to contribute to solutions development during pre-construction and design phases
- Strong client, stakeholder, and conflict management skills
- Experience in effective resource planning and management
- Proven change management capability within a project environment
- Commitment to quality management and continuous improvement
