Project Manager – Burham (Hybrid Working Available)
 
Finlay Jude Associates are recruiting on behalf of a leading Utility Organisation to strengthen their Delivery Team with the appointment of a Project Manager based at their Burham office, with hybrid working available.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading engineering delivery partner within the UK water sector, managing the successful delivery of design and build projects across water and wastewater infrastructure.
 
Role Overview
 
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager or Operations Manager, the Project Manager will take responsibility for overseeing the design, construction, commissioning, and handover of projects to ensure they are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with programme, specification, and budget requirements.
 
You will play a key role in managing multidisciplinary project teams, maintaining strong relationships with clients and partners, and ensuring projects are delivered to the highest standards of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Promote and maintain high safety and quality standards across all project activities, including those delivered by subcontractors.
  • Ensure the Business Management System (BMS) is implemented and followed throughout all stages of the project lifecycle, from tender handover through to project completion.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships at all levels, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Protect and enhance the company’s reputation by maintaining strong working relationships with joint venture partners, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects are adequately resourced with competent and trained personnel, with clear responsibilities and accountabilities.
  • Lead project planning activities, including reviewing and approving the Project Execution Plan (PEP) and monitoring delivery against programme objectives.
  • Ensure detailed construction plans and method statements are prepared, approved, and implemented before work commences on site.
  • Ensure that all required project documentation and records referenced within the PEP are completed and available at project close-out.
  • Identify and report site non-conformities, including assessing potential cost implications.
  • Manage all commercial aspects of projects, ensuring accurate forecasting, cost control, and financial reporting.
  • Apply strong project management practices from initial concept through design, construction, and final client acceptance.
  • Promote continuous professional development and stay up to date with industry developments, innovations, and best practice.
  • Represent the department and the company professionally in all interactions, maintaining positive and constructive working relationships internally and externally.
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and environmental policies, supporting the organisation’s wider performance objectives.
  • Maintain a strong practical understanding of the technical disciplines involved in delivering water and wastewater treatment design and build projects.

About the Candidate
 
The successful candidate will have proven experience managing multi-disciplinary design and construction projects, ideally within the water or utilities sector.
You will be a confident leader with strong organisational and communication skills, capable of managing complex projects while motivating teams to deliver against programme, cost, and quality objectives.
 
Essential Requirements

  • Demonstrated project management experience delivering multi-disciplinary design and construction projects
  • Degree (or equivalent) in a construction, commercial, or engineering-related discipline
  • Project Management qualification (PMQ) or equivalent
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work closely with clients, stakeholders, and end users
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage multidisciplinary teams
  • Proven experience in project delivery from concept to completion
  • Knowledge of construction contracts, ideally NEC or IChemE, including contract negotiation and administration
  • Experience presenting and leading governance reviews
  • Strong risk and opportunity management experience
  • Working knowledge of CDM regulations and construction Health & Safety

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working on water and wastewater treatment plant projects
  • Chartered status with a relevant engineering, construction, or commercial institution
  • NEC Project Manager Accreditation
