Dry Britain and the Water Industry
So, we have another heatwave upon us and often in previous years’, talks of hosepipe bans have circulated.
The Water industry has got to have the most frustrating relationship with the weather more than any other.
When it’s hot they worry about supplies, consumption, lack of flow in our sewer networks, more leaks due to ground movement, reservoir stocks and the affect hot weather has on all of this.
For some, especially those in the wastewater sector, the good weather can provide an opportunity to get backlogged, critical maintenance jobs done.
When the rain hits, the Water Industry can breathe a sigh of relief that the reservoirs are filling and there is light at the end of the tunnel, however, the industry then starts to worry about the water quality that runs into our reservoirs and how it effects the environment.
One thing that doesn’t change however, is the Water Industries passion to serve.
During any heatwave, while millions of households are being urged to cut back their water usage, the water firms up and down the country, Leakage Technicians, Noise Loggers, Meter readers etc, are working endlessly to plug their own leaks, therefore saving water.
